Restoration of a 1969 Triumph Trophy

Before
On collection of the machine in late October it was covered in dirt and grime, that had to be removed before it could be dismantled. On dismantling the machine I found a split rear suspension unit mounting, which was repaired, a large crack in the timing cover oil pressure switch lug and a lump missing from the crankcase oil seal housing which had been previously filled with orange silicone sealer.
Repairs to these were ally welded. The oil in the engine had emulsified thus the internals of the engine had been standing in water for years. The head of the sludge tube locating bolt in the crankshaft sheared due to the corrosion and the remaining stud had to be drilled out. The sludge tube-retaining plug was also seized into the crankshaft and also was drilled out. The con-rod faces were deeply scored and were polished to remove the possibility of stress fractures. One pushrod was longer than the other three. The cylinder head valves, guides, and seats were unusable and two rocker box threads were badly damaged and had to be ally welded and re- tapped. It was noted that one spark plug thread had already been heli-coiled.
