Here
is the latest creation of a 1955 Triton by theBikeShed. |
Well,
the brief was, here is a tank, a seat and a pair of T110 engine cases,
could you build me a Triton. How could I resist, every design feature
was left to me, "Make me a machine that you would really like
yourself, I know it'll be good", he said.
To build a Triton properly, first build it to MOT standard and beyond,
THEN rip it apart and polish and paint it because if you do it the
other way round you will definitely need a bracket moving here and
piece welded there, ruining your paint etc. |

This
machine sports a complete Boyer ignition system using electronic ignition,
power box, double ended coil, and battery backup. Engine goodies are
E3134 cams with 'R' followers. 9:1 pistons, polished rods, gas flowed
head with lead free conversion, and of course belt drive. Gearbox
ratios were left as standard. Other goodies are genuine Tomaselli
levers, Tickle headlamp brackets, ally rear hub, and Norton peashooter
exhausts which make a lovely sound, a change from the usual Goldies.
Every nut and bolt is stainless and so too is the chainguard.

As
I said before build it first, then paint it. This is so important
as I found it was sometimes one pace forward and sixteen back to remedy
some oversight. Classic example was the oil tank. This is the only
part I bought that actually fitted. I was overjoyed, just about to
have it polished, then thought about the inner chaincase. Fitted said
item only to find the drainplug fouled the chaincase, so I had to
weld up the drainplug and reposition it so it would clear the chaincase.

Don't
talk to me about spacers, shims, and special one off parts I had to
make which makes any good Triton a very time consuming build. Anyway
here it is and I hope you like it, I do.
